Once again this year, the team led by Jerry Appelt was able to implement the Wacken Open Air Show Design & Work as Production Lighting Designer for the 25th Year in a Row.
At this year's Wacken Open Air, we were once again part of a very special project. We have already created impressive shows with our festival lighting design in recent years — but in 2025 we were able to significantly expand the presentation once again. We are particularly proud that an even larger drone show was integrated into the overall concept this year. While we implemented media spaces and logos on a smaller scale with drones last year, this time we were able to create a more impressive, even more impressive image in the night sky with a significantly larger drone pool.
The trust that the entire Wacken team has once again placed in us fills us with great pleasure. For us, a central goal was to make all show elements — from pyro to video and lighting to drones — work seamlessly together and create a ceremony that was more than the sum of its parts.
Special highlights included the announcement show, the legendary Guns N' Roses performance, which we accompanied with a spectacular drone show, and the tribute show for Ozzy Osbourne. The latter was written in the sky and received a great deal of attention on social media worldwide — a goosebumps moment for everyone involved.
Such success is only possible through the cooperation of many people. That is why we would like to express our thanks: to our team at Salty Dog Studios in Hamburg for the intensive pre-programming, to our colleagues on site for the live programming and to every single operator and lighting technician. Your dedication and commitment helped make the Wacken Show 2025 an unforgettable experience.
