| Jerry P. Appelt
The light designer Jerry P. Appelt is equally familiar with the worlds of music, TV, industry, art and architecture in his work. His work ranges from the staging of the “Bambi” and “Echo” award ceremonies, the light symphony on the occasion of the inauguration of the new main station in Berlin, the staging of “Scarlet Sails” in St. Petersburg with more than one million spectators or the christening of the cruise liner “AIDA Aura” to the staging of the opera “Carmen” in Seville and the light and media design of the “Upper East” in Hamburg, an event location which opened up new dimensions by using video and LED technologies. His focus is on creative work and the way he understands his work, light and video must both be included in the creative design process of today’s innovative shows and events. Not long ago, designs for light and video were developed separately. Now these two fields can be amalgamated, due to the new technical possibilities. A happenstance for Jerry Appelt that accommodates his creative temperament.
In order to fulfill the different requirements of stagings, Jerry Appelt regards the close cooperation with the corresponding set designer, producer and team as particularly important, because quite often huge shows and stagings – in particular for television - have to be realised under enormous time pressure.
Already at the beginning of his career as lighting designer at the end of the eighties, Jerry Appelt participated in big productions; and always moving lights played an important role. Thus, he says that it was really a happy coincidence that he had had the chance to work with this lighting technology virtually right from the start. His long experience is regarded as very valuable by his today’s clients. Since 1986 he participated in numerous productions for television, tours, trade fair presentations, industry events and theatre. The selection of his projects underlines his achievements.
